Since before I can remember, my life has been totally consumed by the guitar.
From learning to play, forming my first band at 11 years old, upgrading & modding guitars, chasing tones, chasing record deals, teaching myself to repair guitars and subsequently looking after artists instruments whilst touring the world as a pro guitar tech – the electric guitar has been at the forefront of my life for the last 36 years.
It’s this passion for the instrument and the relentless pursuit of tonal excellence that led me to form Ivison Guitars in 2018.
The Dakota Models
Dakota Standard
The Dakota was inspired by my love of the classic tones of Johnny Winter and Allen Collins (Lynyrd Skynyrd).
Envisaged as the soul of the radical mid 60s, auto inspired classics with a more ergonomic, manageable vintage Single Cut feel.
Dakota Bound Top
New for 2025, we are now offering the Dakota with a bound top. Perfect for visually framing a solid colour - like our Cadillac Green shown - or a host of any other 60’s custom colours, it allows you to really personalise the look of your Dakota.
Korina Dakota
Fancy a Dakota with more of a nod to the classic futuristic 50s models... look no further! All the standard Dakota appointments but built with hand selected Korina, an unbound neck and a set of our premium vintage wind PAF humbuckers… tone to the bone!
Dakota One
Stripped back to the bare bones, with the Dakota One, what you see is what you get. Designed to be an all out Rock n' Roll animal, the bridge pickup can be spec’d as a standard Freebird, a P90 Bird or a PAF Bird and when coupled with the simple wraparound bridge and one piece neck you get a resonant, articulate tone machine.
Dakota Reverse
After listening to many requests over the years, we are now proud to introduce the Dakota Reverse. Available as an option across all Dakota models. A 6-aside ‘reverse’ headstock. Designed for the player who likes the added resonance and feel of the reduced tension on the lower strings or for the player who just likes to take the cool factor up to 11!
The Hurricane Models
Hurricane '59
In an ongoing quest toward classic late 50s tone, the Hurricane '59 takes the Hurricane shape, utilises 50s construction techniques, adds some familiar '59 appointments and edges ever closer to the hallowed 'Burst' spec.
Hurricane '54
The Hurricane '54 delves deep into the soul of the early 50s Goldtop guitars while retaining the now familiar Hurricane outline.
Hurricane Standard
The Hurricane combines my favourite elements of the single cut guitars that were being made at 225 Parsons St, Kalamazoo, Michigan in the late 50s - the maple topped sunburst and the stripped back, slab body guitars.
